Dress Code
2023-2024 Phillips Dress Code UPDATE
Beginning with the 23-24 school year, Phillips Magnet Elementary will NO longer require students to wear specific clothing items*. Instead, we will follow NVUSD Board Policy 5132 regarding Dress and Grooming in place of the Phillips Dress Code. This board policy states:
-
Shoes must be worn at all times. Sandals must have heel straps. Thongs or backless shoes or sandals are not acceptable.
-
Clothing, jewelry and personal items (backpacks, fanny packs, gym bags, water bottles etc.) shall be free of writing, pictures or any other insignia which are crude, vulgar, profane or sexually suggestive, which bear drug, alcohol or tobacco company advertising, promotions and likenesses, or which advocate racial, ethnic or religious prejudice.
-
Hats, caps, hoods and other head coverings shall not be worn indoors.
-
Clothes shall be sufficient to conceal undergarments at all times. See-through or fish-net fabrics, halter tops, off the shoulder or low cut tops, bare midriffs and skirts or shorts shorter than mid- thigh are prohibited.
-
Hair shall be cleaned and neatly groomed. Hair may not be sprayed by any coloring that would drip when wet.
If a student comes to school and is out of compliance with any of the items listed above, the student will be sent to the office and provided with a change of clothes and/or parents may be called and asked to bring appropriate clothing to school.
*Any items purchased to meet our past dress code also meet the requirements listed above and your child is welcome to continue to wear those items to school.
